The way that certain waters are filtered is dependent on where the water is sourced from. Filtration is considered a treatment in the water bottle manufacturing process. The water is filtered through tiny holes that keep microorganisms and sediment from tainting the water. While water goes through such a stringent process of cleaning, there are other ways that water can be contaminated. Natural sparkling spring water has CO2 naturally residing within it. In order for the water to maintain its “natural sparkling spring water” label, the water cannot have its CO2 amount tampered with too much. This means that if the water loses its natural sparkle, CO2 can be re-added in. During the water bottle manufacturing process, the natural sparkling spring water can lose a lot of CO2, but manufacturers are not allowed to add much more CO2 than what naturally occurs in the water. Despite this, CO2 can be added to water in order to create sparkling water.

As we mentioned above, there are a few identifiers that bottled water can be distinguished under. In this part of the water bottle manufacturing process, you will disclose where the water came from and what has been done to it. Naturally sparkling spring water is spring water that has carbon monoxide within it naturally. During the cleansing process, this water can actually lose its natural sparkle. In this case, the water will have CO2 added back into it; however, the CO2 must be at the same levels as it was before– no more than it produced naturally. During the labeling process, these identifiers are placed on the label for the consumer to know where their water was sourced and what has been done to it.
